Breeders' Cup Juvenile champion, Good Magic is looking fantastic as he prepares to embark on his three-year-old season. The flashy son of Curlin has been posting solid workouts that were flattered when his regular workmate won a stakes race at Gulfstream Park on Saturday.

Economic Model surged to victory in the grade 3, Hal's Hope Stakes on Saturday after refusing to let the classy colt, Irish War Cry, get by him in the stretch. Economic Model's decisive victory only made Good Magic look even better than he already does. The reason for this flattery is because Economic Model and Good Magic have been working regularly together in the mornings, with Good Magic besting Economic Model in their works. It is always a promising sign to see a young horse outwork an older, more experienced partner, and the fact that Good Magic has been able to easily outrun a horse that is a stakes winner validates the fact that he has been training with quality company.

Good Magic seems to have filled out and matured a lot since his convincing score in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, where he soundly defeated a contentious field of talented horses. He looked good back then, but looks even better now. There is a lot to be excited about with this colt moving forward. Not only has he been training like a beast, but he also has the pedigree to go the distance as the races get longer and harder. He is by Curlin, who was gifted with class and stamina, and is out of the Hard Spun mare, Glinda the Good, who is graded stakes placed, and the victress of the 2012 edition of the Island Fashion Stakes and Instant Racing Stakes.

Good Magic is aiming for the Xpressbet.com Fountain of Youth Stakes (Gr. 2), on March 3, to make his seasonal debut. He put in his final workout for the race on February 24, traveling a strong half-mile in :48.30. It was the fifth fastest work out of fifty-six other thoroughbreds going that same distance on Saturday. Good Magic appears to be loaded and ready to fire when the starting gates spring open on race day. If all goes well, Good Magic will be one step closer to making dreams of roses a reality.

Other top names aiming for the Xpressbet.com Fountain of Youth Stakes are Strike Power, who is the undefeated winner of the Swale Stakes (Gr.3), Free Drop Billy, the grade 1 winner of the Claiborne Breeders' Futurity and runner-up in the Holy Bull Stakes (Gr. 2), and Marconi, who ran third in the Withers Stakes (Gr.3) last time out. Good Magic will have to face a formidable field for his first start back, but appears undaunted as he gears up for the challenge.
